Chapter

Twenty-Seven

TWO WEEKS LATER…

I've spent most of my time with Meredith, training and learning how to control both of my newly awakened sides. I'm eager to learn more about my potential, but I understand it will take time. Meredith shows me different ways to use my powers and strengthen them, as well as how to protect myself and the ones I love.

In the meantime, witches from the Coven have been popping up at my university, searching for me. They want me to join them, to merge my power with the Faewood Coven. I'm fully aware their reasons are purely selfish - the more powerful witches they have, the more influential the Coven becomes. Who knows, with enough power, the Coven Elders might even attack other Covens.

My best friend Becca keeps her promise, calling me each time the witches show up at our dorm. We both have a bad feeling about the frequency of their visits. So, for now, I decide to stay at Aamon's place on the Northside of Avalon.

Meredith plans to come to Aamon's apartment today, and I can't help but feel excited. During our time together, I've grown attached to her, to the point where I consider her family. Despite the dangers, she insists on training at Aamon's place, confident that the witches wouldn't dare invade Aamon's territory. While I feel safe with Aamon, knowing he's a powerful demon and the ruler of the Northside, it doesn't mean I can move freely as I wish.

Now, Aamon has been downstairs for twenty minutes, waiting for Meredith's arrival, and I'm starting to worry. What if she ran into trouble crossing the border? Or worse, ran into Agatha or some of her minions? For all I know, Meredith is still on the run, given her past with the Elders and the fact that she has to disguise herself to remain in Avalon.

To distract myself from my concerns, I decide to make some tea. I place three cups on the counter, sinking tea bags into each one and pouring in boiling water. Surely, Meredith won't be much longer, right? My thoughts race, but I manage to pull myself out of the abyss of fear, reminding myself that Meredith is probably just catching up with an old friend.

Suddenly, a light tap on the window to my right startles me. Turning, I gasp. Meredith, stunning in a long black dress, stands on the balcony, tapping her foot impatiently. "Are you going to stand there gaping, or are you going to let me in? Don't make me wait out here all day. Time's not on my side, dear," she says, a smile tugging at her lips.

I rush towards the balcony, almost tripping in my haste. I unlock the sliding door and open it wide for Meredith. My mouth hangs open as I take in her appearance. "If the wind changes, your face will stick that way," Meredith teases, stepping into the apartment.

"But...how? How did you do this? Where's Aamon?" I stammer, questions tumbling out in my confusion.
